Chilcabamba sits at about 3,480 metres above sea level, and the national park climbs much higher. Feeling the altitude a little on day one is normal. These tips help your body adapt gently.
7 tips to acclimatise
- Take day one slowly: arrive, rest and walk little.
- Drink water throughout the day.
- Eat light and skip heavy meals the first night.
- Go easy on alcohol in the first days.
- Keep warm: cold tires you faster at altitude.
- Climb gradually: save the harder hikes for day two.
- Sleep well: two or three nights make adapting much easier.

What feels normal
A mild headache, faster breathing while walking or lighter sleep can show up on arrival. They usually ease with rest and hydration.
